Will my key have to be reprogrammed after changing the battery?

I decided to change the battery in one of my keys, because nothing worked on it at all, which I thought that it might be the battery, but today when I finally got the replacements, i soldered the leads on with some wire(because the contacts were too small to solder onto) and the key doesn’t work still. I checked the polarity and made sure that the negative side was down, and still no luck. Would it be that the key itself is dead, or is there some re-programming that i’d have to do to make it...
