Mechanical fan delete

I've heard about the mechanical fan being deleted to aid in the "underdrive" pulley effect. My thought as it defeats potential cooling off the engine. Is there even any benefit? It'd have to be a butt Dyno gain in the very least to be worth it. Thoughts?
