E46 M3 FS: 2004 Silver Grey/Imola Red Coupe SMG NY

For sale is my beloved 2004 M3 SMG with 156k miles. I purchased the car in July 2012 with 99k miles. The title is clean and in hand. It has been the most reliable car I’ve owned. She was my daily driver to school/work and has been nothing but a pleasure to own. She was my second E46 and I was simply ready to move on to a newer BMW.

I performed the vast majority of the maintenance/mods myself. I have maintained a spreadsheet to record maintenance and modifications. The only work I had performed professionally was my subframe reinforcement and bushings, driveshaft flex disk, and brake fluid flush. Aside from mods, all engine/drivetrain parts ever replaced were OEM. I can search for receipts if needed.

Mechanically, the car runs great and has no CEL. I honestly can say she runs better than she did at 100k. Oil was changed every 7000 miles with Castrol Edge. I never tracked the car and can honestly say she was never abused during my ownership. The only warning on the dash is for TPMS, which are not installed. The exhaust is catless, but there is no check engine light due to the ESS tune.

The interior is in pretty nice shape. The imola red interior was the main reason I purchased the car and it never failed to disappoint. I’ve added a ton of carbon fiber bits that are 100% molded carbon fiber, not simple overlays. The one exception is the steering wheel trim, which is vinyl wrapped. The roundel on the steering wheel is red and black carbon fiber. The steering wheel is black alcantara with red stitching and 12 o’clock stripe from CobyWheel.

The exterior isn’t terrible, but far from perfect. Here’s a list of some notable issues.

- Small dents/dings mainly on doors and rear quarter panels, and one on the roof (likely can be corrected with paintless dent removal if desired)
- Bumpers need to be realigned for perfect fitment
- Rock chips on front bumper and hood
- Muffler tips are a bit crooked
- Rear driver’s side window tint is damaged

The paint is in decent shape. She would greatly benefit from a detail. The rear rubber window trim is dried and cracking in some spots. The windshield cowel is cracked and faded, but I have a brand new one that I will include.
Below is a log of almost everything I did to the car. Be mindful that some of the items listed have been recently removed.

Needs:

Rotors – The car needs new rotors. They are at the minimum thickness and are heavily rusted from the car not being driven often. The front rotors are OEM CSL. The cheapest I found new OEM CSL/ZCP rotors is $360 for fronts and $310 for rears. Another option is to source a complete OEM brake setup (seen them around $300) and sell the Porsche calipers and RallyRoad brackets.

Quirks:

1) Roof leaks – I installed a carbon fiber sunroof delete panel. I botched the install by not using the appropriate sealer. I recommend removing he current caulk and resealing with 100% silicone.
2) Loud exhaust – The car is extremely loud. The main culprits are the headers and muffler. It never caused trouble with the police, but the neighbors complained. Easiest remedy is to install a stock muffler. I can include one that needs minor fabrication.
3) Alternator whine – I installed a sound system and unknowingly ran the AV cables next to the main power wire from the battery, which causes a faint, high pitched whine when driving. This is only when the navigation unit is powered on. The noise can be stopped by turning off the screen. This never bothered me enough to reroute the cables but some may find it more annoying. There are currently no subwoofers in the car but I can include OEM HK subwoofers.
4) No radio – Has never worked for me. I always listen to music and used CDs. Never really bothered me.
5) Key remote doesn’t work – Never worked at any time during my ownership. Car and trunk must be locked and unlocked via the door lock.

Here are the mods currently on the car and how the car will be sold. I expressly note that the car is being sold with the blue wheels and the OEM imola red leather seats. Also, many of the pictures show the car lowered on coilovers. It currently has OEM suspension. If it is not on this list below, it is likely not included.

I know mods do not raise the value of a car. However, some key parts have a good resale value and can offset expenses. For example, the cost of an OEM brake system can be offset by selling the Porsche calipers and RallyRoad brackets; the exhaust components can fetch $1k, while an OEM setup is less than half the cost.

Car comes with 2 keys, 1 regular key and 1 valet key. Both keys open and start the vehicle.

Car comes with the blue ASA winter wheels with Dunlop winter tires.

Price is $8,000 (with blue wheels ONLY). Car is located in Bethpage, NY.
Please don’t hesitate to ask any questions. I will answer everything to the best of my ability.

I will take current pictures of the car this week.
