I've had a persistent airbag code in my 01 M3 convertible for about a year now, it comes and goes seemingly at random. I bought a peak R5/SRS tool awhile back and was consistently getting a code for table 04, and passenger door airbag 06. I thought maybe connection issues and took the door panel off several times and broke the connection and cleaned contacts and ensured the connector was tight when I put it all back together. The code would clear and then come back in after awhile, sometimes days or weeks later.
I eventually had a failing battery/alternator and replaced both and the code stayed clear for significantly longer, a couple of months or so. I thought maybe there was a relation between inconsistent power and that airbag in particular causing this code to come in.
Recently I have had this code come back in and this time it wouldn't clear as it was accompanied by a new code, Table 04 code 73, this time for the driver seat position sensor. I can't seem to find this sensor in diagrams on RealOEM, or as parts on sites like ECS or Pelican Parts.
I'm wondering what my next step in this process should be.
The only codes in the car are Table 04, codes 06 and 73. Nothing in OBDII, no other warning lights, no issues starting or running the car. The only reason I'm hesitating finding this seat sensor and swapping it out is an issue I have with my convertible top that makes me wonder if it might be an overall electrical issue that's causing airbag warnings to occur. I've never been able to open the convertible top using the open/close buttons on the center console with the engine off. I've never tried using the key itself as I didn't know it had that function until earlier today.
I'd appreciate any insights or suggestions about how best to tackle this.
