Hi All, I posted this in the genera forums as well but thought local guys may be able to help sooner!
Here is the story: 2004 325i sedan, 133,339 miles, Stewart water pump expansion tank, hose put in at 105K miles. Car runs great. while on a sales appointment 100 miles from home, expansion tank splits in Stamford CT. BMW dealer to busy to take the car that day, local Independent shop was booked up, who directed me to Meineke shop. Meineke replaced the tank, upper and lower hoses. everything was fine for about two weeks, then my coolant level warning light came on and aux fan started running all the time. I added BMW coolant and we are good to go. 4 days later it happens again. add coolant no problem. Then I saw the leak. A slow drip from the bottom hose where the lower thermostat comes in. Took the car to a local Meineke shop for what i thought would be a warranty repair. No such luck.
When they opened up the tank and hoses, they found that the lower thermostat was stuffed into the expansion tank poorly, cracked it, and that was what created the leaking. a very slow leak. Why a leak i have no idea, too much pressure maybe?
Bought an OEM lower thermostat from a local BMW dealer, had them install it and no more leaks.
BUT my Aux Fan does not shut off. That is my problem. how do I trouble shoot that issue?
Thanks and looking forward to your replies.
