Rear shock need to be replaced if the bumpstop is gone.

Car is 02 325i, i just noticed few weeks ago that my bump stop is gone. I know that the bumpstop hold the protection tube up, since its gone or destroyed because of water or dirt...now the tube fell leaving the inner part of the shock exposed to dirt and rain.



I don't know how long it's been this way. But in my case, should i be worried that water coming into it? Do i need to replace the shock? Right now I plan to get new bumpstop. Btw bump stop on both left right side are gone.
