High rpm no shift

I drive a bmw 325i e46 with about 160000 miles. I kno is a lot of miles but the car has just been redone with new coils, sensors,vanos fluids etc and has no codes. When I'm driving, aside from a lack of speed gain, the car will get to high rpms and only shift if I let off the gas pedal and baby it . This is more apparent in sport then normal (cars automatic). I'm not sure what's the cause for the lack of power to barely mike it up a hill but I would atleast like the car to shift. Idk if this is related: I'll be driving and i push the pedal down and it all of a sudden shifts (hard) and it sounds like the engine is worming hard but the car doesn't go anywhere. (M56 engine)
