I'm neck-deep in wiring in two 2005 coupes right now in the middle of a project that was more ambitious than I originally thought.
Both cars - all cars, from what I gather - are wired for BMW Assist, with the connections at the end, antennas, etc just bundled up in the soft velcro pouch in back if the car isn't actually equipped with it. One coupe (the one into which I want to add Nav) was equipped with it, but I yanked it a while ago. (Doing so had no ill effects.)
This thing has a pretty substantial cluster of wires that run alongside all the nav/radio/amp wires and get in the way. After crossing the driver footwell they Y off, with a few heading forward under the dash somewhere and a few riding the center of the car rearward. With the exception of two grounds in back and three little inputs that are spliced into the radio (presumably so it can talk to you similar to how nav can), it is entirely independent of the nav/radio stuff I'm working with.
So I'm wondering... can I just cut it all off?
It seems logical that since it's not plugged into anything in back, it'd be fine. It's effectively cut off at the end, 15 feet of wire behind this Y point. But then again, there's GPS involved, I don't know where it goes up front (surely control box, up to the mirror, wired in to the phone stuff, etc), and most puzzling, there's a little 2-wire connector on a separate harness in the trunk that it was plugged into in the BMWA-equipped car. Which wouldn't strike me as odd... except that on the nav-equipped car that same connector from that same harness was wired instead directly to the nav DVD unit.
