330 XI with limited Slip?

Ok strange one for today.

Had my car at the shop to replace the rear diff cover. Long story, but I was rear ended and that cracked my diff cover ... so the other insurance company paid to get the work done.

The shop called me and said my car would be delayed as they had to order the LSD additive for my car. I explained the XI's did not have LSD, but they argued that it was indeed a limited slip. They spun the wheels and showed how they both turned the same direction as it would with a LSD.

Now I am still sceptical as I have not found any information to support that.

BUT ... let me tell you about how this car drives in the winter. Getting it to fishtail around a corner takes zero effort. A simple blip on the gas and the rear end goes sideways (until the traction control catches up). It's actually nice for parking as you can swing it around with no effort.

If you take traction control off and accelerate, it's pretty much a sideways slide (like a subaru commerical!). Again quite fun, but certainly different to drive.

Maybe they all do this and maybe the shop is full of crap. Who knows.

Apart from putting the car on stands and trying to spin the wheels independent, I'm not sure what to test.

Hey ... if it did have an LSD ... that's cool. Unsure who put it there of if BMW did.

Strange.

Mark.
