Climate control fault codes

Still having issues with the climate control system in my car and I'm convinced that it has something to do with the sensors/operation of the climate control brains. If read that the climate control unit stores fault codes when there is a problem. My question is how do you access the fault codes? I've searched all over the net and it's not quite clear to me. Thanks
