So I have a 325ci e46 w 125k. My lights are flickering while driving kinda looks like it blinks(turn off a little/ look like lights are low powered or sum) and turns back on. My temp gauge is stuck on -40f and everytime i go through a shallow puddle it beeps and flashes a couple times? And when i put my defroster on it automatically goes full blast and gets really hot and i'm not able to adjust it? Anyone have any ideas?

E46 M3 tapping/ticking sound at 2k rpm

Hi all! I have a very disconcerning sound from my 2004 M3 177k miles. Theres a tap/ticking sound around 2000 RPMS that increases as RPMs increase. I'm wondering if its valve clearance and will a valve adjustment fix this or is there something else? Theres no vanos or motor codes. It almost sounds like rod bearings but I dont believe it to be that. No noticeable power loss. Any other ideas? Video below

'05 330ci, noticed yesterday that the exhaust ws making a kind of whistling sound - never heard this before. Anyone familiar w/this noise? Seems to be coming from the exhaust system, louder near the middle (front-to-back) of the car.

I have a broken Fog Light on my daughter's 2003 330i.

In order to replace it, do I need to:

• remove the front fender plastic inside the fender well to get to it?
• reach it from the bottom through the plastic engine guard?
• Will I be able to reach it from the front after removing the ring around it?

Dried battery acid in tray

I have noticed some orange residue in the battery tray. The PO told me that he had an issue with the old battery and the car dying on him, I am thinking this may be from that. I scrubbed away some of the surface orange/rust and there is still another layer of it. Is the best way to clean this to sand it down to metal then re-spray? Now that the rainy season started, I found out that my rain sensor is not working properly. Automatic headlights are working but the windshield wipers not.

If I'm correct, maybe one month ago, I was o a tight situation and smashed really hard on the brakes. PA SOFT Install problems (here we go again)

I've installed PA SOFT on number of times on both windows 7,8 and 10 machines, but this time I'm stumped.

Let me run you through the process.

I have a 2002 330i Touring auto (VIN PC63276).

The metal cap that covers the outer CV joint on the end of one of the drive shafts (output shaft for those in the US - what you guys call a drive shaft, we here in the UK call a prop shaft) has rusted so thin that it has developed a hole and grease has started to weep out I have been told I can just replace that CV joint instead of the whole shaft. I decided to change the battery in one of my keys, because nothing worked on it at all, which I thought that it might be the battery, but today when I finally got the replacements, i soldered the leads on with some wire(because the contacts were too small to solder onto) and the key doesn’t work still. I checked the polarity and made sure that the negative side was down, and still no luck. Would it be that the key itself is dead, or is there some re-programming that i’d have to do to make it...

OIL PAN GASKET / OIL FILTER HOUSING GASKET / ENGINE MOUNTS DIY

My wife's 2001 330ci was leaking oil from the oil pan gasket so I went ahead and replaced that, the oil filter housing gasket and the engine mounts while I was at it. I wrote up the instructions of what steps I took to accomplish these repairs. Please see the attached file.

Perhaps this information will be helpful to someone out there considering doing these same repairs! Lord knows that I'VE been helped many times by someone on the e46fanatics site.

I don’t this from what I can find. I am just wondering if so how much easier that would be then trying to source out each bolt, but, grommet. PSA: Windows 10 Update 2004 breaks BMW Scanner / PA Soft 1.4 (+ October 2020 PA Soft Install Guide)

TL;DR: If you run BMW Scanner on Windows 10 DO NOT update. Updating will break support for the BMW Scanner cable.

In order to use BMW Scanner (also known as P.A. Soft) you need to use a special cable. This cable depends on the FTDI drivers to run and function properly. Drivers are the middle man that helps the cable communicate with the computer. Without drivers the cable is essentially useless since it can't talk to BMW...

Took my 2005 330ci in for a smog test and everything shows "Ready" except for the cat.

I've found info on the drive cycle for a 3-series, below. I'm wondering if I can do just the relevant portion of the cycle, i.e., just do part C (which it says runs the catalyst monitor) or is doing the whole cycle required? I am struggling to think of any roads in the area where I could complete the cycle below w/out running a red light or a stop sign, or getting rear-ended...driving 55 on a freeway here...

Static Low Side AC Pressure Doesn't Change

Exactly what the title says. My static low side is 40 psi, which I know is low. And when I turn on the A/C the compressor doesn't click and the pressure doesn't change. I know compressors won't kick on if it's too low, but if it thinks it's 40 shouldn't it at least try? Fuses are good, but past that I'm all ears.

And what leads me towards the compressor. It's oily. But nothing above it is oily, so I really don't think it's coming from above (OFHG, valve cover, etc.).

I’m having problems with the fuel gauge on my BMW e46 2000 3 Series. The needle doesn’t fluctuate and is always idle, even when fuel is put in. BMW e46 325i 2000 3 Series Fuel Gauge Issue

Air Conditioning - All sound, no fury (aka, air noise, but no air from vents)...

My 2000 328i air conditioning / cabin air started acting wonky this morning. The problem is that, while I can hear the air blowing sound ramp up as I adjust fan speed up, little to no air is actually coming out of the vents. I get a -very- gentle breeze with the fan on the top setting, and next to nothing on lower settings. I've confirmed that the vents are all set to open (I), not closed (O).

I've tried toggling Auto, turning the AC (snowflake) on and off, and selecting the up/mid/down...

Need help identifying what’s causing my engine to bog and misfire on acceleration

I have an 02 325ci that runs good for the most part, but on low acceleration at low RPM usually in 2-3k range, the engine often rapidly shudders/bogs, and if I try to push through it the engine misfires.

oddly enough, my car runs immaculately at high RPM, 3k and above. I can only get a misfire in first gear acceleration in that low RPM range, and occasionally I feel a slightly rumble when rev match down shifting to that range. It’s odd that a gentle acceleration will cause a misfire but...

I have a lot of plastic decay, so I wanted to replace the wire loom around parts of the harness, notably around the thermostat and for the reverse light sensor over the transmission. Hello everyone, has anyone ever installed INPA or other scan software onto a Linux distribution (without using a VM)? I'll admit I don't know much about the scan software itself, but if it's possible to do so I'd be very much interested in trying it out.

The kits are too expensive and would like to try it myself.

Hello guys. I need help with my aftermarket front M tech 2 bumper.
I got my bumper yesterday and tried to install it. First removed mine OEM bumper, removed the alloy bar and side original brackets. Okay to this level was everything fine. Timing chain noise

Hi, I had a question regarding the noise coming from the timing chain are mainly the top where the second upper timing chain tensioner is. I will include a video of the noise before all my upgrades and how it is currently.

For reference I have done the vanos anti rattle kit from ecs and basically have fresh vanos. I have replaced the lower timing chain tensioner. I have a 2003 330ci 5 speed with 196k miles.

I have taken a long screwdriver as I couldn't get my hands on a mechanics...

I have a 2000 E46 that has about 150K miles on it. I took it in for a repair to the secondary air pump system and after it was fixed, the mechanic cleared the error codes and the computer. The repair job was not related to the catalytic converter.

Where can I find metal door panel clips? (if they exist)

I’m getting really tired of these plastic clips that break very easily, and I recently replaced all 4 regulators and motors, and nearly half of the clips snapped and crumbled, so I got some new ones, and same result. So are there any metal clips out there? Or any good plastic clips that don’t break after one use?

Plus, my door panels don’t want to stick to the door, and with the new speakers I put it, from Bavsound(which by the way they are amazing and worth every penny) but my doors rattle...

Hi guys,
I own a 2001 BMW e46 325ci. My car was driving perfectly up until yesterday when I stopped at a signal and the car suddenly went into limp mode. (The only light on the dash is the cog with an exclamation point - no check engine lights or anything else)

I tried to reset the transmission by pressing the pedal in for 30 seconds, - Didn't work

I unplugged the battery overnight, and that didn't get it out of limp mode either.

It has a new battery. It has 12.2 v when the engine is off...

clunking in slow reverse on the 04 at 168k miles. center support bearing on the rear driveshaft is bad. was already on my list because someone here says they need to be replaced at 150k miles. confirmed by my local independent.

Clutch Slipping, bad clutch disk or DMF?

04 zhp 6spd, 247km

As far as symptoms go, no irregular noises on startup or shutoff, and no wierd feel in the clutch pedal. Engagement point is definitely higher since it has started to slip.

Based on what I have read online this seems to just be a worn-out clutch, but want to see what you guys think.

Another strange aspect is that I parked it at a buddies house which is on quite a steep hill,

The failure occurs with a dowel (locating) pin on the flywheel coming loose and doing damage to transmission bell housing and pressure plate, while making a violent aluminum can tearing/scrapping noise most under hard braking or high RPM. Recently I purchased a 2003 325xi with over 200,000 miles, and the previous owner said the car won't idle.
I bought the car, thinking it might as well be a MAF sensor or the IAC valve needing some cleaning. Turns out, the DISA valve was also broken right off the shaft, so I replaced that as well. Today I modified my rear truck net into a privacy screen using a $5 sheer curtain found at walmart. Took about an hour of fitment and sewing, but after I trimmed it up,it looks almost factory.
