I took delivery of a 2002 M3 (70,000 miles) over the weekend and am working on getting it sorted. New tires and took care of all of the DMV stuff today and I'm dropping it off at a BMW shop on Wednesday. Some of the issues I have found include:
Multiple oil leaks- can't really tell origin other than pinion seal
All brake rotors are very rusted and pitted and pads almost gone
Drive shaft coupler is deteriorated
TPMS light on despite pressure check and multiple reset of the system
Coolant temp gauge is dead
Redline orange lights never go fully off and stays at 7,500 redine (perhaps due to coolant gauge and/or TPMS light being on)
The engine starts and runs great, plenty of power, transmission shifts great (am getting locked out of 2nd on 3-2 downshift occasionally but Im not used to the gate enough to declare an issue). I also have a weird very deep rumble coming from the rear end when making very sharp slow speed turns (parking lot, driveway, etc).
I know this is not nearly enough information but was wondering what you think this might run to address. I'm trying to lessen the sticker shock as I'm dropping the car off and heading out of town for a few days. I'm mainly looking to get it back to safe and drivable and not worrying about upgrading brakes or anything at this point.
Any thoughts?
