Weird Coolant issue

Car has been driving fine, Coolant gauge in the middle no issues with overheating.

It's cold here in PA, 10 degrees, not unlike other mornings that were colder than that.

So this morning on starting the car, I get a low coolant light on, and it went off after a 1 min.

This bothered me, so I though I would check the level after I parked the car for a while later in the day. I opened the expansion tank and the float level was down. I removed the bleeder screw and started the bleeding process. Upon doing so the float came back up, is that normal? I added close to a 1/2 gallon of coolant/water and still nothing came out of the bleeder screw.

I didn't want to over fill, so I put the screw and cap back on and went for a 15-20 min drive till the everything seemed fine.

Do you think I was just low on coolant? I didn't see a leak. Sensor issue, am I over filled?

I just wish it was warmer so I can properly check. Expansion tank was 2 years ago.

Any thought would be appreciated.
