I've recently noticed something strange with the wifes car (2005 325xi). Whenever we'd take her car we ALWAYS used her key. The last few times, we used my key. I immediately noticed MUCH smoother shifts (auto), I also didn't feel the 2-1 downshift coming to a stop. The car feels for lack of a better word ... happier. Thinking this couldn't be, I used her key for a trip today and it was back to its usual old performance.
So I was wondering ... does a key hold any type of memory? Does a key trigger something with the ecu? Or is a key a key and something else occured?
