Hey all,
So spring is almost here (I hope) and I figured I kee the 330xi for a while longer. Just can't get rid of the car considering how it feels on the road and the overall driving experience. This car is mainly my winter warrior, in the summer it gets driven a bit.
Basically, this time around I am looking at the doing the cooling system, the last time anything was touched on the cooling system was the thermostat about 46k ago by the PO along with both belts.
Now.. I know there is a few kits out there and it's a simple "Add to Cart" and be done with it, but what I am looking to figure out what is ABSOLUTELY needed and what I can get away with.. As I said, this car isn't my DD 365 days a year.. I do notice on extremely COLD days, were talking -35 Celsius I see that it might leave a drop or two of coolant in the snow on the first start up (been doing that now for a couple of years). It comes from the front passenger side tire area, so I'm guessing that's the lower radiator hose.
Basically the car has 150k on it. I've done a fair bit of maintenance on it thus far over the last 3 years I've owned it. CCV, vanos, vcg, axles are rebuilt/replaced, guibo/csb, transfer case mount, rtabs, rsms, in a couple of months will do upper & lower ball joints, OHFG, brakes..
In the cold mornings I hear a whine for the first minute or two on acceleration - at first I thought it was my intake boot turns out its not as I swapped it last year with a new one and it's still doing it, so would this be my pulleys?
This is my list of items I was thinking of doing but as you can imagine.. the cost adds up quick and I'm trying to keep the cost down to an extent.
Thermostat
Expansion Tank, with 1.4 CAP
Hoses, to my understanding there is 4. Which ones are crucial?
Pulleys?
Belts?
Water pump?
What about the sensors? Coolant temperature sensor & leaving switch?
Please refrain from just saying the entire cooling system, as we all know that I can spend hours on any one of the supplier sites and build carts and spend a endless fortune on any car but at the end of the day let's be realistic.
