My e46 was totaled by a drunk driver so I'm in the market for a new vehicle. I've been looking at a few higher mileage e53's and e70's because I like the idea of being able to tow a car (a project e30 is in my future). Lots of people complain about the X5's reliability and maintenance costs, but I'm having trouble figuring out how much of this is due to actual differences vs the 3 series and how much is a different type of owner who is afraid of DIY work. Anyone here own a high mileage e53 or e70 that can chime in?
