I've been trying to hunt down a decent one for like 4 years now and they almost NEVER go on the market.
I've seen maybe 3 or 4 on the road in the last 4 years. All of the ones that do go on the market are ugly gray on gray with SMG, high mileage, and poorly maintained.
Seriously, who would pay $14k for a M3 with 150k miles and almost no service records? It would need another $5-6k just to get it up to standard probably.
Anyways, I am undergoing a project of my own that is turning out to be much cheaper than buying these ridiculous high mileage ugly ones.
I found a 2002 m3, red with black leather at a salvage auction for $900 and it is almost completely destroyed... Engine and most of the interior is intact though as well as the rear end, diff, drive shaft, etc.
So I'm kind of frankensteining this car with a 325ci I picked up for cheap.
In the end it probably won't be very comfortable so probably more so a track car and I am well aware of all of the differences in the two cars and getting it to fit so I might be frequenting this forum regularly with bits and ends of my project/small fixes.
Here's what a $900 m3 looks like:

It is too far gone to try to fix it, so just using it as a donor car for the ci.
