Ive had a couple of misfire 'incidents' recently and have been trying to track down the cause.
First time it happened a month ago I was on vacation, driving home (250 mile trip). Car was running perfect, stopped at a rest area. While waiting in the parking lot car was idling and all of a sudden it quivered a little and the cel light went on. Restart and everything was back to normal.
Second time it happened, drove home from work (15 minute ride), then went driving around a bit and sure enough...sitting at a stop light it shook and threw a cel. This time, restart didnt clear.
I can now also get it to do this if I let it sit in the driveway and idle when its warmed up.
The ONLY codes that come up are various cylinder misfire codes...no other codes. (Using torque pro...android)
STFT seem to stay at 0 and 3.1...they dont move.
LTFT of course vary up to about 15% max.
So...I built a smoke machine...following the various DIY's found on the net. Used a paint can and a rag lit on fire with mineral oil for smoke. Can get smoke through the intake to come out the oil filler but after putting cap on cant find any leaks. Smoke tester seems to work pretty well, but cant see any leaking smoke.
Not sure where to look next.
BTW, 25000 miles ago the CCV and all CCV hoses were replaced, this week both upper and lower intake replaced, DISA taken out, tested, seems good and O ring replaced. (I also have 2 OEM MAF's ...it happens with either one.)
So...whats next?
