So I've searched the forums and once again I feel like an idiot. I don't fully understand how the EWS works, and I intend to install a remote start this summer. I drive a manual transmission vehicle and no reputable shop will install an automatic remote start, and setting reservation mode is a hassle I don't want.
So here is my understanding of EWS so far.
1. Unlock and enter car.
2. Put key in ignition cylinder. Transponder in key communicates with antenna in cylinder, allowing the car to start.
3. Once car is running, DWA is disabled. You can lock/unlock, but not arm/disarm.
4. After shutting off and removing the key, you must open and close one of the doors to reenable DWA. The car won't arm/disarm until this happens.
Here is what I effectively want to do. I want the remote start to mimic what would happen if I walked out to my car and started it to warm up.
1. Unlock the car. Unlocking will disarm the vehicle in this case. I don't believe there is a way to disarm the E46 without unlocking it, but if someone knows of a way please tell me.
2. Fool the car into thinking the transponder is near the antenna. This will be done with a 556U transponder bypass. I will have it trigger before the remote start sequence is initialized.
3. Send a crank signal. This is the actual starting of the car. This should be possible now that the car is disarmed and believes the transponder is nearby.
4. Once running, send a lock signal. Since lock/arm are the same, it will simply lock the car while it is running, I understand it won't arm. I'm okay with this.
5. After shutdown, disable the transponder. This will allow the car to rearm itself. I'm not sure if I will have to somehow trigger the door open/close signal here.
6. Send a rearm signal.
My big question is on step 5. How do I prepare the car to rearm after shutdown without opening and closing a door?
Any corrections on the process I've outlined or ideas on rearming would be greatly appreciated.
