Hi!
Driving a 2003 E46 325i sedan.
The weather is starting to get a bit warmer here.
Yesterday it was +14 degrees Celsius when I got off work and got into my BMW (had been parked outside the whole day).
It started up just fine but it did not immediately adjust to normal idle RPM. Instead it fluctuated 2 times in a range from about 300 rpm to about 1,2k rpm. The second I touched the gas pedal just a TINY bit, it went to normal idle rpm and all was fine.
Here is the thing, I first had this this winter (at about -5), and I thoguht it was due cold weather but now I realize it has been getting more obvious in warmer weather. It stalled a few mornings in the winter after doing a range of fluctuating rpm. When I started it again and pressed the gas pedal just a TINY bit it was all fine from that moment. Also, before the warmer weather came in, I had this issue one morning after the car had been sitting the whole night in a warm, damp garage (from melted snow).
Also - I have no other rpm issues when driving afterwards or sitting in neutral.
I did diagnostics at 2 shops recently and both resulted in only 1 error - the MAF is completely dead (checked it myself, one of the sensor thingies is actually broken).
I was told this might as well be because of the dead MAF, which I am getting in 5 days (new OEM, of course).
As for the overall state - no leaks, have been doing <10k km oil changes, VANOS seals changed <50k km ago.
Hope I made this sound clear!
