Dash instruments cut out momentarily...?

Hello everyone, this is my first post.

I have a 2005 325Ci convertible, which I bought this past August. So far, it hasn't given me any trouble beyond the rear passenger turn signal going out. Today, however, something odd happened. While driving down the road, I suddenly heard several (5-7) beeps from the dash. Then the display turned off, and all the needles dropped, as if I had turned off the ignition. However, the engine didn't stall, my headlights didn't go out, and the radio didn't turn off. After just a couple of seconds, everything came back, except the clock had been reset on both the instrument panel and the radio (all dashes), as had the trip odometer. As I said, the radio never stopped playing, but all my station presets were gone.

The engine never missed a beat, didn't sound different, nothing. The entire episode lasted perhaps 3 seconds. I continued driving, got to my office, and parked. I shut the car off, and then started it up again. No problem. At the end of the day, it started right up as well.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Chris in Austin
