This Is a helpful message for anyone who has had issues with idling, and car revving on its own and generally lumpy running. I recently had an oil service on my 318ti 2003 2.0 63333miles, before the car ran sweet as a nut and ticked over and idled perfect. After the car struggled to keep a steady idle and was running like a lada !! After hours of diagnostics showing NO codes whatsoever, fiddling and changing breather pipes spark plugs and maf sensors. Sadly no change until I read a thread on hear about the same issue and hey presto something as simple as a faulty oil cap solved my nightmare. I cannot stress enough how something this simple could have caused this, so to all you DIY fans out there check your oil cap is in good condition and securely fastened as it will save you many sleepless nights.
