Hello fellas, first time posting on here although I have roamed around here for a while already. So i decided to create an account to hopefully get some help on an issue I'm having. Anyways no more bs, lets get to the point.
Alright so I have an 05 325i that I bought last year and was running fine until about a month ago that I went to visit some relatives about 15min from my home. So I got there and when I was getting ready to leave I turned on my car and it probably lasted about 5 secs on and it died on me. So I thought it was a dead battery at first.(Keep in mind still had what looked like OEM battery) So I tried to jumpstart it and it didnt work. So I ended up leaving it there and came back the next day to see if it would start and it did, so I drove it home. The car felt heavy and slow when I pressed on the gas pedal. That same day I went and got a used battery at a local shop because I thought my battery was finally "dead". Anyways so I got another battery(used) and put it on the car and the car ran fine until my car died on me again. So I took it back and got another one because I had a warranty. After I got another one I went out of town and drove for about 30min on the highway and when I got to my destination I turned off the car and did some things which took about 1hr. When I got back to my car I turned it on and drove off. About 5 mins later, the car died on me at a red light. I turned it on and pulled over and turned it off. I waited 5 min and turned it on and sat there for about 30secs with the car on to see if it would die or not and continued onto the highway. About 5 min later my car died on me on the highway going 70mph luckily I was on the right lane and pulled over to the shoulder. I had to get it towed out of the highway because it wouldnt turn on no more without dying right away. So after I got taken out I was waiting for my insurance tow truck for about 30min which that ****er never came to pull me home, so I decided to turn it on and see if it would at least stay on for 5min which it did. So i drove it home through the streets( took me about 1hr to get home. Luckily i made it safely. At this point I was already frustrated going through 2 used batteries so I thought it was the alternator. So the next day I took out my alternator and took it to a shop to get it rebuilt. Got it back put it on and it worked. Car turned on normally and worked for about a couple trips (about 3). That same day when I was going to turn it on to go to work it would turn on and then die. So I took out the alternator again the next day and took it back to get it checked and got it back and put it back in and everything again was fine. Except this time I went to get my battery fully charged. So I drove to school the next day 20min drive. Class was 1h30min. SO basically car was off for that time. Got home let the car sit for 1 hr and left to another class which is at a different campus. Drive was 45min. Class was 1hr. So another 45 drive home. Got home ate, showered, relaxed, car was off for about 2 hrs. When I was getting ready to go to work I turned the car on and then it died. So I said **** it and walked to work. Next day first thing in the morning I turned on the car and no problems at all. So I went to the carwash, then to the store and got home. Car was off for about 3hrs after I got home. WHen I was going to go to work same thing happened to me. Car turned on and then died. Walked to work again.
Long story short when I do long trips or short several trips my car wont seem to want to start after I let it rest. It starts then dies.
Idk if I need a New battery because the one I currently have is used and its a GM(General Motors) battery or if I need a new alternator. My current alternator has been "rebuilt twice".
Sorry for the long story but I tried to describe it as best as I could.
