Fuel Pump Replacement Guide

I do not know If there are any guides to replace just the pump on an E46, but I have made one after not finding anything about it. All I could find was just replacing the whole sending unit and pump.

I had lean codes on and off for about a 2 years with my 2004 330 CI. It has 160k miles on it. Just last week it started to idle very rough, so I went the vacuum leak route and replaced all the plastic pvc hoses, intake boots, DISA oring, cleaning the ICV and so on... well last Friday my car would start and shut off after 20 secs.. I checked the plugs and compression.. All good. So what is left? Fuel... I checked the pump and it turned on ok.. Then I checked the fuel pressure and bam.. It was shutting to 60 psi and dropping to 20 psi after 10 secs and the car dies.

New pump later, and all codes are gone. MPG is actually better than before. Maybe because it is no longer in limp mode...;)

I hope it serves well and helps others save some money and headaches.

Thanks,

Jonathan
