I have a BMW 3 Series 320 Ci SE (2004 convertible) with a broken roof. I'm a total newbie (no real experience with cars) so any help or advice would be gratefully received.
With the roof up, when I press the 'roof down' button, the motor begins to engage but then stops very quickly. I've discovered that, when holding the 'roof down' button, its possible to manually push the roof back and fold it down (although its pretty difficult to do this without two people -- one person to hold the button and one to fold the roof back).
At various points the motor seems to engage and the roof goes down just by pressing the button but it gets stuck at several points along the way and you have to manually push the roof along. The same story for getting the roof back up again once its down.
I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem before or heard of it? More importantly, any ideas about what the problem might be / how to fix it?
I'm currently planning on selling the car and am wondering whether it would be worth getting it repair, whether I can fix it myself (presumably not), or whether I should just sell it as it is at a big discount.
