Bad Transmission ?

Quick question . My 2002 330 with 137k miles just started to shutter when driving in M mode.It happens when i am coming to a stop and put it in 1st .It also does it when i put it in reverse,and from reverse to drive. I have done 2 fluid/filter changes in the last 110k mile I have owned it . Does this sound like trans is on its way out? Or should i try fluid/filter change ? I have 90% of the stuff i need for my 5 speed swap. As soon as i get a few more things, Im gonna do the swap right here in my driveway

Why this car has not been Sold yet?

Hi Members,



I have been in the market for a LSB and came across this clean 2003 LSB on cars.com. When I contacted the seller I came to know he has been trying to sell it since last September. Considering this car has all the bells and whistles is making me think if there is something wrong with this car.

Any way to add red light + speed cameras?

I just bought a genuine Australian map for a E46 M3 (the HIGH map for the MKIV system). Is there any way to hack it so I can add red light and speed camera POIs? (As a side thought, maybe even Caltex petrol stations)



Anyone done this before? Previously I had bought a 2013 map with all this in it but I t=don't think the chap I bought it off sells anything any more.

m54 to m56 block swap help.

Hello you guys.



Here is the story .. i was doing a head gasket job on 325i m56 sulev engine due to overheating problems and everything was going fine until i torqued the head down and damaged the headbolt treads on the block. I have heart that it happens a lot on this aluminum blocks after overheating. So i was wondering if is possible to fit m54 block on my m56 head because i can find m54 engine for very cheap and i have such a hard time to find m56 one.Has anyone done that , the only difference should be the pistons , but if i have to i'll swap them too.

I spoke with few bmw geeks and nobody could tell , only one guy came up with the story that the blocks are totally different due to the oil ports on them witch for me make no sense because the head gasket is same for both engines.

Please help.....



Also can anyone share some info about the time-sert kits . I gave up on the idea of the inserts being to risky , especially after i spoke with one mechanic from local well known bmw shop who say - " Well , the biggest inserts we were able to find were 25mm witch is not enough , we have done this job couple of times with no success so now we just change the blocks.On the other hand couple of the local machine shops were very happy with the time-serts.

So if anyone can throw some info will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I drive a mkiv gli as a daily so the ///M wont be driven everyday. this will be more of a show car...

I have a 01 e46 325i, when I turn on the fog/driving lights my car rpms seems to fluctuate up in down, then the car shuts off it I don't race the rpms to keep it from cutting off. any ideas what this may be.:eeps:

Maintenance Advice, please

Hi everyone,

I've owned an '04 330i for about a year now, and was planning on taking up the job of doing the servicing and some other mechanical repairs myself. I recently had the car in for the airbag recall, and got the dealer to do a detailed report on the car in general, so that I could know what leaks needed to be fixed etc.



So basically, need to do a full service, Rocker Cover Gasket, Oil Filter Gasket, replace most of the Oil Separator, Engine Mounts, and the driver's side front wheel hub/bearing. I was just wondering what the best order to tackle these jobs was?



I also have a really irratic, rough idle and rubbish fuel economy (something like 15L/100km o.o) so I was going to give both the MAF and the ICV a good clean out at the same time. Might even check the DISA to see if it's been torn to shreds too. Front control arm bushing probably needs to be done too, but I'm leaving that to another week as I've heard its fairly easy.



So yeah, just wondering how I should tackle that first set of stuff, and whether anyone think the idle/poor fuel economy issues are more than just the MAF or ICV.

Just acquired this to be the all arounder, a car I don't mind putting miles on, running through awful MN winters, and a car that will sit outside the garage in the summers to give the E30 a full year garage spot.



It's a sport, premium, xenons, 5spd 2004 325xi touring with 109k miles. I bought it despite the crappy used car dealer it was at and warning signs to find something better. Hell, we can't be choosy when looking for a 325xi touring 5spd and also I have the great input of those on this forum and well documented FAQs. So far I'm looking at new front brakes, a leaking oil filter housing and bad oil level sensor, ac recharge (I hope that is all) and a driveline shake that could mean new axles or maybe it's the mismatched tires. 98-01 3 Series Gauge Cluster $60 obo

I have a fully functional gauge cluster up for grabs here. I know how hard these can be to come by depending on your area so I decided to sell since I dont need it. Bought it with on ebay for $85 with 24k original miles and it is from a 2001 325i. I wasnt aware at that time I wouldnt be able to re code it to my car with my PA soft since it has the newer M35080 chip. Now shows 108k as I was only able to code the mileage for my car but not the vin. However anyone with NCS expert or better can code and use with no issues, I have video of it working in case you are un sure. Just looking to put it to a good home and make some of my money back. I've been on the hunt for rear springs for my wagon with the sport suspension. It seems impossible to find AWD wagon springs with the sport package.



Does anyone have a part number or point me to a site that sells them? I have an add in the classifieds, but it appears there are quite a few others looking as well.



I can find sport springs, I can find AWD springs, but I cant find AWD w/ sport springs.



I'm not interested in lowering the car, just want to fix the broken spring before I put the car up for sale.

Another FNG Question: What is the space aft of the left strut tower?

Snooping around under the hood yesterday and got to wondering about the void space on the passenger (right) side aft of the strut tower. It looks like it is about the size of a car battery and there are two threaded mounting points on the firewall. Anyone know what this is/was/could be?

Low coolant light when ac is on 323i

I have a 2000 323i just payed over 1k for a coolant leak not including that I changed the thermostat, pulley and reservoir.

When I turn on the car the ac works well once in a while but the low coolant light turns on seconds of ac working then sometimes when the car is off the fan starts working on its own. On and off periods

The heater doesn't work I didn't have money for the work so I had it looped I hope I get some insight please would really appreciate it...

E46 coupe help

Hi, newbie here, I have 2002 E46 coupe. Windows in front can roll up and down by the key in the door, but the rear quarter panel window won't close. I can't access it in the switches because they are shot. Any insight on how to close them? Thanks.




Aftermarket stereo with PDC?

Guys,



I wanted to install an aftermarket Alpine single DIN unit so that I can access A2DP in the car but when I called my local stereo shop the sales rep informed me that the 05 model M3 has a ton of the vehicles chimes through the factory radio including that of the PDC and some others. Is this true? He advised that there is a $200+ wiring kit that is required in order to maintain the use of PDC and the other chimes. Considering the cost of the new HU, the wiring kit for the steering wheel controls and OEM harness, and centered dash kit, and now this magical harness, the cost is beginning to head into the plug & play Dynavin N6 territory.



Can someone who has installed an aftermarket deck in my scenario please chime in. Also, does anyone have any experience with the centered dash kits? Part #65900410495

??wiring angel eyes to burn constantly when ignition on??

So I'm a little confused about where to wire the angel eyes to stay on constantly when the ignition is on, some say go to the fuse box in the glove compartment, from say ignition under the steering wheel, some say the Black plastic box in front of driver under the hood... I know this can't be that difficult I just don't know how to.

As the title states, I have a set of OEM BMW 16" rims w/ centers that came off of my 1999 E46. The rims are in fantastic condition (9/10). All four tires hold air and all four match. Tires are Mastercraft Strategy's 205/55/16 with about 15-20% tread remaining (no wires showing but will need to be changed soon). I was riding on them with no issues, I changed my set so these are taking up space. I'm asking $250 for the set and will not separate. Local meet up only for these. Thanks for looking.















2002 M3 Dyno result

i had my car 2002 m3 on the dyno yesterday a dynojet.

it has

252 whp at 6500 RPM

223 WTQ at 6500 RPM



3 dyno pulls same numbers on all 3 pulls.



what do you guys think of the torque number is it too low.



the car would not pass 6500 RPM mark because the operator did not know how to put it in dyno mode.



the car only has a K&N drop filter as mod. Spark plug changed and valve recently adjusted with oil change.



My questions are



what would my HP and TQ be if the car was on dyno mode rev all the way to 7500 RPM..?



What would my HP and TQ be after i get the TTFS alpha N tune and Euro headers no cats with rev limiter raise to 8200 RPM

Thoughts on M3 'lookalikes'

just wondered what people's thoughts were, I know the Msports look great but do you think it's too fake to mimic the daddy, I know it goes against the performance factor but I suppose it's that cheeky feeling of the respect you get if done right...



I'm not sure how many differences visually there are,




rear shocks..Is it as simple as it looks...

Just been reading up and watching a few videos on changing the rear shocks, is really as simple as it looks or are there pitfalls for the novice, found some good tutorials but a few questions...



Does it have to be on ramps/blocks



Is there any visual clues to them needing a change from under the car before taking the boot lining up



Is it visually clear they need replacing or just the mounts.

hey guys looking for some help would anyone be able to tell me whats wrong with my car, if i accelerate hard from a stand still or coming out of a bend it will shudder and feel like the rear wheels are on a bumpy as road and the shudder will get worse as the revs climb then it will disappear once i back off or pass 60ks if it helps its a 2002 330ci manual i suspect diff buy not positive

Interior Light Problems

so i have a problem.

the driver side interior lights do not work (makeup light, step light). every other interior lights work perfectly.

i checked the fuses all are fine.

changed the bulbs still do not work.

I'm replacing brake lines (upgrading to stainless) and wondering if I can bleed each line as installed (starting with passenger rear) or if I should replace all 4 lines then bleed all 4.



I have 2 jack stands, so I can only work on the front or rear at a time. I'm hoping I can replace and bleed the rear lines, then replace and bleed the fronts. I don't have space (condo) for 2 more jack stands :-(.




Reinforcement Plate help

Ok so I just got my xiT last week and have been getting some interesting creaking and popping when going over angled speed bumps and if I make sharp enough turns at decent speeds. Suffice it to say I don't feel too confident in driving it. I read somewhere that the front reinforcement plate could be loose or the bolts need to be replaced and torqued down properly. Ok. Bought some bolts.



So today I'm doing my cooling system refresh and decided to take a look as well as see if any of the suspension is noticeably loose. Well to my surprise, NO PLATE! Only the two plastic covers! According to RealOEM I should have it. Shouldn't it? Do all e46's have this plate. I know my last e46 RWD did, not sure about the XI's though. I honestly don't even think I saw where it would screw into.

Car shaking, loss of power

About a week ago I started hearing this sound coming from the engine bay. Sounds like if you were to tap your pen on a wooden table. Today, I was dropping a friend off and the car started to shake badly and the engine light came on. The tapping noise seems to get more pronounced when I turned the AC on.



I know I need to get the codes read. I'm working on it. What do you guys think?



I'm thinking spark plug or coil culprit?

Irregular Behavior - Numerous Codes - Help and Suggestions Appreciated

First off I have the rattle that according to some looking around, has something the do with the fuel rail or my injectors? This is new as of around a month. Before anyone gets on me for taking so long to look at it I have been away, so I haven't driven my car for any extended period of time in about that amount of time (my S/O has driven it in 1 mile intervals to the store a few times throughout that time).



The codes:

P0174 Bank 2 System Too Lean CONFIRMED

P0171 Bank 1 System Too Lean CONFIRMED

P0313 Misfire Detected With Low Fuel CONFIRMED

P0128 Coolan Thermostat (Coolant Temperature Below Thermostat Regulating Temperature)

(typical temperature sensor code that is on and off - according to my "research" around the forums that can happen quite often, regardless of whether or not the sensor is actually bad).



Behavior: When I get on the gas for the first 5 minutes of driving the vehicle stutters a bit. Not when I let off. I.E. When I step on the gas it stutters ever so slightly then resumes normal behavior. Similar to as if I was in 1st or 2nd and just completely let off the gas.

P0340 code

Hi all, first post on here but have been a frequent lurker over the past couple of months - and have done a few DIYs thanks to great writeups on this site!



Anywho, I'm getting the P0340 code (Cam shaft position sensor A bank 1), which from what I can work out is the intake sensor. So, today I've replaced the sensor and cleared the code (I think), but I started the engine and searched for codes again and its straight back up!



I should point out that the car is pretty sluggish until the revs get up, with hesitation when you put the foot down (feels like throttle delay).



Anyone have any ideas?

New Member 2004 BMW M3 E46!

Hello Everyone my names Jared and I bought my first 2004 BMW M3 E46 in September of 2014. I love the car so much! Smooth, grips the road, beautiful inside and out. I wanted to join this forum to meet others who have the same interests and love for these amazing cars. Looking forward to seeing what everyone has to say and taking on some advice. There is a great deal to learn about the car. Some things about myself, I'm currently 21, stationed at Fort Bragg, love cruising around, enjoy meeting new people, and taking fun adventures whenever I have the free time!







The only issues I've had so far is one wheel being different than the other three, my anti-dimming fluid leaking from my rear view mirror, front right tire rod in slight play, odd delay in shifting with SMG, missing tools from the trunk, and that's about it so far. I would like to get advice on how to fix these items and bring my car to the best condition that I can. Taking photos of the car as soon as possible.

Rough Acceleration + Rough Idle

Hi All,



I have an E46 with an M54 engine. Perfectly maintained car, with regular oil changes, high octane fuel etc.



In the last few days after driving for 20 or so minutes (especially under heavy load) the acceleration is rough and starts sputtering. Mostly around 2000 rpm to 3000 rpm, and then over 3000 it is less severe. If I stop and turn the car on and off, it seems to temporarily fix the issue, but then in another 20 or so minutes the same thing happens.



Any ideas as to what this could be?

Replacement Diff. for ZHP

I was under my car today and found my differential to be leaking, it seems to be the left axle seal but im not quite sure yet(cleaned diff and waiting for the leak to reappear). How hard is this to replace? And if it is something like the front pinion seal I may just replace the diff, I was considering this anyway. What kind of bmw diffs are a straight bolt on?

Single Mass Flywheel Conversion | '04 BMW 320i

Hey guys,



I'm new to the forum and have owned my Canadian '04 Bmw 320i 5-speed for a few months now. I love the car and want to keep it in tip top shape!



So, I've had the common dual mass flywheel failure symptoms, as well as, a weak clutch and am looking to opt for the single mass flywheel conversion kit. After spending the past few days doing intensive research on this conversion, through US suppliers and forums, I'm still left with a few blanks that I need filled before jumping the gun on a purchase.



In terms of drive line, I can compare directly to the E46 325i, which helps when discussing with the majority of you being from the States. From what I've read on forums, a few of you are running the Valeo Conversion kit, while the rest have upgraded to the UUC Lightweight Flywheel w/M5 Clutch Kit. Both appear to be great options, seeing that the Valeo is a bargain and the UUC is an upgrade if willing to spend the extra money. Please notify me if there are any alternatives that I'm missing here.



Valeo Kit: BavAuto have informed me that the production date for this clutch ends in '03, and thus will not work with my car. They claim that from '03-'04 there have been changes to the E46 transmission and isn't worth taking the risk to buy. ECSTuning on the other hand, also specify a production date of up to '03, however after speaking to one of their reps, they have installed this kit in several E46 models, some of which were '04. Valeo, are in agreeance with BavAuto and claim to not have a listing for an '04 325i. Can anyone confirm that this in fact works on a 5 speed '04-'05 3-Series BMW?

UUC: I have determined that this kit will work 100% with my car, which has been confirmed by every source that I have come across. My only issue is that I'm not looking to upgrade to an 8.5lb flywheel, since the car is a DD and I would prefer to stay away from excess chatter. Any opinions or feedback regarding this clutch kit would be greatly appreciated.

ECS Tuning Flywheel: Another option would be to opt for the 16.5lb ECSTuning lightweight flywheel, which looks to be a medium weight that I could likely cope with for daily use. I am also having difficulty confirming that this will work with an OEM clutch disc. Has anybody run this, with what clutch kit and what are your thoughts on the product?

Okay guys. Before everyone freaks out. When I was 18 I had a 2003 330ci manual with 130k miles and f****** loved it. I'm now 20 and in the navy. It's time for a new car and I would love a m3 but for some reason I like the 330ci body better...and would love to have my old car again and do everything I wanted to do with it. So my question is. Is it worth turboing/lowering/stiffening everything on a 330ci or just plain out buying an m3?

E46 M3 Subframe Reinforcement - Epoxy Method

Has anyone done the subframe reinforcement plates in northern nj using epoxy? Any recommendations of shops that will do it this way? Everyone I have spoken to welds in the plates.

selling a brand new IAT (ambient air temperature sensor) with harness for you to tap into your MAF harness. there is a small plastic chipped at the connector, but doesn't affect the function and is super tight to the sensor.



for those of you don't know what this is, I just copy and paste the info:



Product Info: The factory placement of the E39 M5***8242;s and E46 M3's air intake temperature sensor (inside the airflow meter) was a design oversight in this otherwise near-perfect car. Since the airflow meters sit directly behind the radiator, the factory sensor sends inaccurately high temperature readings to the DME when the engine is hot. When the DME receives these false high readings, the engine’s performance is retarded to protect itself. In tests, the temperature inside the AFM is often over 45 degrees F higher than the actual air temperature outside the car. This kit relocates the sensor to the front of the car inside the airdam, where it will always send the true temperature reading to the engine’s DME. This simple modification will ensure consistent performance when the engine is at full operating temperature.

Maintenace Question - How Do You Keep Wheels From Sticking To Hub?

I thought this might better be started in the General Forum, but it may be later moved to the Wheels and Tire section.



So the question to everyone is how do you keep your alloy wheels from sticking to the hubs on your car?



What you have tried, if anything, and with what you tired do you think it works well?



If you are running wheel spacers, what to you use and is there a difference in the issue, what sticks, what doesn't and what issues do you have with spacers and corrosion, what parts stick?



This question may also be somewhat Regional as I would expect fewer issues in drier/arid climates. But in the North East, North West, Rust Belt this may be a very different and bigger issue.

Also how do you remove stuck wheels on your car? There are many ways to do this, some better than others. I have seen/heard of people loosening the lugs and shaking the car, moving the car back and forth and stabbing the breaks, using long pieces of wood to pry the wheel, kicking the wheel, using a sledge hammer on the tire or using a spare/extra wheel or tire and roll it into the side of the tire at full force.



I had a hell of a time getting one of my front wheels off my X5 the other day that has been off not long ago. I ended up using my LARGE 275/40-20 wheels with tire mounted and rolling it into the side of the tire about 15-20 times before the wheels started to at least break loose, then I has to the tire on opposite sides another 5-10 times until I was finally able to get it to release from the hub.



I clean up the hub mounting surface and inside of the wheel hub mounting area with a stainless steel wire brush and a scraper to get any rust bumps knocked down. So I try to "prep" and "maintain" the hub and wheel mounting area to reduce corrosion and sticking of wheels to the hub.



I had some silicon grease laying around the other day, so I thought I would try this and see how it works out over time. Just a very thin layer on the lip of the center hub. I did not cover the face of the rotor with anything this time.



I thought I would toss this out to see what ideas other have, what others have tired and like anything what works over time because until a few years has past, it is really hard to tell what really works and what doesn't.

Rpm issues

Hi and thank you in advance for any advise i get here!



I have a 320i 2000 170bhp with 122k on the clock... Ive just changed the alt and battery aswell as vcg and expantion tank.



My issue now is the other day my car would not crank at all starter wouldnt even tick happened for couple of goes and worked fine im assuming starter

Motor on its way out?



Second, on the same day when i tried to restart the car it would start rev up and then just die! Fuel pump kicks in fine any idea?



Third, while i am diving the car just dies with no stutter at all just died on me.



Also while idling my rpm sticks at 900-1000 doesnt got hunting but if i rev the engine up and let it drop it will stop at 1100rpm and then second later drop back to 900-1000 is this normal dnt sound it.



I have had the car on dignostics machine and MAF came up but issue is with this plugged in or not the car runs exactly the same.



The next was cam shaft sensor and mis fire cylinder six which i am sure will be coil pack.



I know thats alot but can someone please advise me.




Clutch Job - Rear Main Seal - Which type?

Good Morning Bimmers!



I'm about to put a new clutch in my 2002 BMW 325CI and I've got just about all the parts picked out and on order.



I have a question when it comes to the Rear Main Seal which goes around the end of the crankshaft:

I see two part numbers out there. One P/N is 11142249533 and it doesn't have a tension spring built into the design. The other is P/N 11141706785 and it has a tension spring built in. I would assume the "older" design with the tension spring built in would be the better and more expensive one, and yet, that is the less expensive part.



Does anyone have any knowledge or experience on this and know whether or not I should go with the tension spring or non-tension spring part?

Local shops around my area that could build a custom box were not exactly within my budget and didn't instill much confidence in their ability to create a quality product.

Unfortunately I don't have the setup for a DIY.




My 325xi overheating!!

Im thinking its a headgasket but im not positive. The car starts fine, idles fine but as soon as you take it down the road the heat will start to rise. If it is a head gasket would it be somthing you'd recommend DIY or a mechanic. I don't have alot of money at the moment and need a vehicle asap. I also have the replacement h

Head Rest Removal

Ok guys did a search and didn't really come up with anything useful so the question is...



How do you remove the rear head rest with out destroying them?

I wasn't sure how to remove and install front reflectors with smoked reflectors. Don't want to break them. Simple task just never came across any videos or diy online. Help, thanks in advance!




2 E46's, Same Clutch Judder

Hi everyone, hoping you guys can help me out with this one, as it's driving me nuts.



First a bit of background (skip if you're impatient :D):

I've had two E46's throughout my BMW experience, both of them 2003 BMW 325i manual transmission sedans. The first one had 122k on it when someone T-boned me and it was totaled. My current 325i has 75k miles on it, and it is in great condition with a clean title. When I bought this car, I was sure that the problems I had with my first E46 were due to its higher mileage and the fact that it was rebuilt from a front end collision. However, after a bit of driving the car I noticed the same issues as I've had with my first E46 coming back to haunt me. Now I know my way around a manual transmission as I've owned a couple manual cars including other BMW's before, so please don't tell me this is driver error ;) . In fact, I first thought that I simply needed to get used to my cars, however after months of driving, researching, and trying new ways to engage the clutch I simply gave up and now am turning to you guys for help.



The issue: Clutch Judder

This is a randomly occurring problem, it can happen when the car is cold or when the car is warm. Yesterday I went to the store, and the whole way there the car would shake violently every time I would begin moving from a stop. However, maybe 45 minutes later, when I was done at the store the trip home was without issue - there was not a single judder on the way home.



I'm sure someone might know how this judder feels like, but for those that don't it feels like the clutch is slipping however the slips are very quick and brief (about 3 times a second). And so the whole car vibrates and you could hear this low vibrating noise as well as a rattle outside of the car. Sometimes I can smell something burning when the judder happens, from what I assume can be the clutch. Keep in mind that I've tried to get around this issue by changing the way I engage the clutch, I've tried to kick up the RPM's to 1.3k and see if a quicker clutch engagement cures the shudder. However, it only reduces the amount of time the shudder happens (the car shakes maybe 2-3 times only in this case). The judder happens regardless of whether I try to start moving the car slowly or quickly.



Now other then starting out, my clutch seems to operate fine. On the freeway the car drives beautifully, and I've tried to check for clutch slippage by flooring it in 4th and 5th gear at 80 mph and no slipping happens.



As I've mentioned before, I've had the same issue with my first E46 so I'm wondering if this is a common thing. It does happen less frequently on this car then my first car, however it does happen nonetheless and when it does happen, it's quite bad. Let me know if I need to provide more information for you guys. It seems a little too early to have a clutch go at 75k miles, doesn't it?




Is this likely to be the cause of my problems?

Pulled the disa valve out tonight to see condition and seems its not being held by any vacuum and can be flapping about. Is this likely to be the cause of the bad fuel consumption, low power, and codes p0171 and P0174. Laso noticed its very oily and smells a bit of petrol, any ideas?

Hey guys, I purchased a set of LM Reps from craigslist (business) for a e46 coupe non M in 19's. I rolled the rear fenders, got adjustable camber links and the tire still rubs. The business will not take the return and i paid cash.

I am trying to get something less aggressive for the rear that doesn't cause any issues with 245 size tires. Let me know what offsets should I look for and which company sells the correct size.

airbag light on because gf was playing with the seat controls.

So my gf was playing with the passnger seat moving it up and down for about 30 seconds. .. next thing i notice the airbag light came i scanned with obd2 to see if any codes. But nothing.

I just bought a 2005 E46 325CI convertible February. It only has 65k on it(used snowbird car). I honestly have no clue where to start with modifications on any car. I want to lower it to eventually place velgen wheels on, probably 19s. Anyone have experience or knowledge on starting this project?

Advice- Recommendations: LCM for 2000 E46 323i

Please advise or recommend a LCM (Light Check Module) for a 2000 E46 323i sedan.



ISSUE:

I've installed some LED lights and experienced Hyperflashing and bulb out error codes, no surprise. I purchased resistors, however they get quite hot and I'm concerned about mounting the resistors in the vehicle. It, also, caused the headlights to blink on-off. It may be the ground isn't sufficient at the trunk lights. Suffice to say, I want to avoid the resistors and hope to update the LCM, which IMO is a more elegant solution.



In BMW Scanner PA Soft, the current LCM screen doesn't display the Hot Check options. After reading through some long forum threads, there are some suggestions, the issue may be the older LCM version. A newer LCM may include more options. such as, deselecting "Hot Check". (per this thread)
My LCM produces a PA Soft window with minimal options. such as the bottom screen shot below->

I'm wondering, if a North American vehicle can support the European LCM with the optional fog lights. This vehicle started as the basic E46 323i package. I haven't found symbols for prewired harnesses in the trunk, though it would be great to install fog lights in the vehicle front.



I reviewed some forum threads, where people have flashed new firmware into their LCM's. That is beyond me. Specifically, I want to remove the existing LCM and install a (left-hand drive) LCM with the fog light options. Perhaps HW version 16 with SW 3 or greater. I would like to know if a more modern LCM will plug right in.



There are some comments if, the correct VIN is programmed and lower mileage is programmed into the LCM, the tamper dot can be avoided.



BACKGROUND:

Please, go easy on me. I'm a noob to BMW. I don't know all the acronyms, however I can use a wrench, soldering iron, and torq driver.

I purchased the 2000 E46 323i, last year, for my spouse. :loco: I was happy to avoid a new car purchase.



The car had been in a small accident (by the previous owner), scratches down the side, broken mirror, dented fender, and cracked corner lens. The vehicle is now looking pretty good, and seems to have recovered from the mid-life trauma.



I took the vehicle to the BMW dealer, who produced a list of repairs. Those have all been done.



I've done updates, cleaning and repairs/maintenance. I have plenty of maintenance plans ahead. I now have my own list, thanks to this forum :thanks:

Maintenance work

Does anyone need maintenance work done but don't feel comfortable doing it yourself?



Weather is getting better so I am willing to offer my services.



I've owned 2 e46s, and all work have been done by me. I am an excellent DIYer, but after repetition of the same work, I can do it with my eyes closed.



Ive done plenty of work for random people on the side already as well as my own friends who own e46 m3s. I won't attack any job if I don't feel comfortable doing it, but I will let you know that right away.





Please PM me with anything you might want to get done. I won't be as pricey as a dealer or any other shop out there.



P.s. I have a Pa soft scanner too

P1500 and P0172, no other codes new parts

I had an odd code come up after a road trip, P0172 after bout 300 miles of driving but it wasn't paired with the usual P0175. Also later my EML, traction control, and brake light tripped and put the car into limp mode and threw up code P1500.



I'm thinking it may be O2 sensor related because those are about the only thing I haven't touched on the car in the last year.



I just put these OEM parts on it:

DISA

CCV

MAF sensor

Intake boots

cam shaft position sensor (exhaust side)

new cooling system (hoses, pump, t stat, expansion tank, radiator)

OFHG



All of these parts have been on the car for at least the last 750 miles or so without issue.



In addition to that I also cleaned the throttle body and ICV.



I looked through my fuel trims and it showed freeze frame short term at 10.76 and long term at 2.83 but only tripped on bank 1.



Any ideas?

Techinque Tuning running on e85?

I have a 04 330ci, and I am thinking about putting Nick G turbo kit into my car. From my understanding the stage 2 isn't for my year of the 330, and my car isn't a ZHP, so I wasn't sure which one I would order. My other thought is that has anyone ran this kit on e85 yet? I would like to make my car flex fuel capable. Do you know of any tuners that would be able to tune the car to run on e85?

Euro facelift sedan taillight question

Hi,



First of I'll explain my situation atm;

I have an '03 facelifted sedan, so I have(/had) the r/c/r taillights.

I've replaced these with the pre-facelifted LED ones, which work perfectly fine.



Now, my question is if it's possible to disable the running light on the trunk because it no longer matches the design of my lights.

The catch of this all is that that same bulb is also my rear fog light so just pulling out the bulb won't do the trick for me because I would still like to use it as a fog light.



I would be super thankful if anyone knew how to solve this problem!



PS: I don't know anything about car electrics but I do know how to follow instructions haha

Best sounding exhaust for a 325xi

I know this topic has been beaten to death , but could someone point me in the right direction to get a great sound.




Advice needed : Faulty ECU

Hey guys,



Here's the background story of my car:

For the most part of 2014 my car has been very sluggish in the bottom end but noticeably faster in the top. i thought this was due to changing headers.



I was away for 2 months during Christmas and when i came back every time I started up the car and drove for a couple of minutes my 5th cylinder would drop out. Took it to mechanic and replaced coil packs/ spark plugs etc still the same. My mechanic told me it has to be a electrical problem.



So i took my car to an auto electrician and they sent my ECU away to be tested. Test result came back that it was faulty. Apparently something is causing my ECU to be faulty thus causing my 5th cylinder to drop out after cruising for a few minutes.



The guy told me that it'll cost me 2k for a new ECU but he is trying to find someone that could 'maybe' clone it so it would be much cheaper than buying a new one. They also do not know what could be causing the ECU to be faulty.



So has anyone had a similar experience?

And are there any cheaper alternatives apart from purchasing a new ECU?

Quite a few issues. What to tackle first?

Basically I have a few 'big' issues that are creeping up and not enough money to fix all of them at once. I'm seeking advice on what to tackle first:





1.) Transmission fluid change ( steptronic GM trans, specifically: A5S390R 05/02 Manufacture date). I considered doing this a while back but was terrified due to reading threads about high mileage transmission fluid changes. I'm at 180.8k on the original trans and trans fluid, the thought of making it even worse haunts me. Frankly there aren't major issues, but I notice a big hesitation when shifting from 1-2 and 2-3 if I accelerate slowly. The problem isn't as bad if I accelerate fast. In addition it seems to stay in gear longer than it should before it downshifts, and there are various other occasions where the shifting points are very odd.



2.) Suspension refresh. I'm running original suspension as well and was about to do this because my car was throwing me all over the road when I hit potholes. However, after a much needed tire replacement, much of my 'suspension' issues seemed to have cleared up. But I still know things need to be replaced. EST; $1,600 for the DIY. This would need to be put on hold for a bit longer.



3.) Power steering leak. I had a shop tell me the pump and all the lines needed to be replaced. That was about 10k miles ago and all I've done is replace the fluid once ( flushed six times). Things seem to be fine other than the obvious leaking around the hoses by the PS reservoir. I'm suspecting that this is just related to clamp problems. Thoughts? The PS leak is VERY slow.



4.) Brakes. I have no clue when the guy before me replaced the brakes, but given how shi**y he was at maintaining everything else correctly I'm sure it's been a while and he probably used crappy parts. At this point my brakes are mediocre and when I press ~25-35% down on the brakes I hear a loud squeal from my front left brake.







Then I have some other nagging things like my oil level light coming on every single time I start the car regardless of where my oil level is at. In addition I have a mystery oil leak that is not VCG or OFHG, so I suspect my CCV needs replacing ( pretty sure it's the original ). Oh, and my DISA was barely functioning correctly when I checked it around 5k miles ago, so I'm sure that needs to be replaced as well.





On top of that, I have the most annoying whistle around 1,750-2,000RPM when accelerating. I checked my intake boot and there are no holes. I'm stumped.
